NBA Rumor: Miami Heat already preparing for 2020 free agency
In the past four seasons, the Miami Heat has been struggling to make it to the finals since the departure of LeBron James last 2014. However, Heat president Pat Riley wants to change that.
Riley shared with Jason Jackson of NBA.com that the Heat will aggressively acquire at least two superstars in the 2020 free agency.
“In 2020, we’ll have a lot of room,” Riley said. “We’ll also have the possibility to have enough room to go after two max contracts, and we’re going to do that. So we’re planning that 2020 will be the room year.”
The 2020 NBA free agency will be a shopping spree for all of the NBA teams as most of the league’s bests are expected to be on the market lists.
Some of the expected players in the free agency will be Anthony Davis, Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Gordon Hayward, Andre Drummond, and Danilo Gallinari.
In that same year, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, and Marc Gasol could also join the free agency class if they end their contracts with their current teams.
Riley may already have set the plans for the 2019-2020 NBA free agency but it doesn’t mean that they have waved a white flag for the current season’s playoffs. The team are currently doing all their might to make it to the playoffs not for themselves but also for Heat’s very own superstar Dwyane Wade who will retire soon. After the incredible victory against the Golden State Warriors yesterday at 126-125, the Heat are now in the 10th position in the Eastern Conference and will be looking to battle the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday (Manila time).
