NLEX import DeQuan Jones suffers horrific leg injury

NLEX Road Warriors’ 118-111 win over sister team TNT Tropang 5G was overshadowed by a serious leg injury suffered by import DeQuan Jones in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup action at the Ynares Center on Tuesday night.

Jones was stretchered off the court in the third quarter after sustaining a severe lower-leg injury with 7:27 remaining in the period.

The 36-year-old American forward was attacking the lane when he landed awkwardly on his right leg. The injury was aggravated when TNT big man Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser lost his balance and inadvertently landed on Jones.

Jones immediately went down in pain and had to be taken out of the game on a stretcher before being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

He finished with 23 points and four rebounds before his night was cut short.

Despite losing their import, NLEX regrouped and eventually outlasted the defending champions in overtime to secure the victory.

The severity of Jones’ injury and his timetable for a possible return will depend on the results of further medical examinations. (Adrian Co)
