JAMIKE Jarin appeared set to join the NLEX Road Warriors as the top assistant of head coach Jimmy Alapag, but the coaching move reportedly fell through over a lingering issue dating back to his San Beda days.
According to a report by Fastbreak columnist Homer Sayson, Jarin had been handpicked by Alapag for the position and was expected to become a key member of NLEX’s coaching staff.
However, the proposed deal did not push through, with Jarin’s previous departure from San Beda reportedly becoming a factor.
Jarin was under contract with San Beda in 2016 when he left the school to join National University.
San Beda is part of the MVP Group, which owns the controlling interest in NLEX, raising questions about whether the coaching move was affected by the circumstances surrounding Jarin’s departure nearly a decade ago.
Whether the decision was directly connected to the 2016 episode remains unclear, but the development has fueled speculation that an old issue may have resurfaced.
Jarin, an Ateneo alumnus, is currently the head coach of the Lyceum Pirates. He previously handled the Phoenix franchise before Charles Tiu took over as head coach.
His coaching résumé includes 17 championships earned in various capacities as a head coach or assistant across the junior, senior and professional ranks. (By the Staff)
