NLEX Road Warriors import DeQuan Jones is expected to undergo surgery in the Philippines after suffering a serious leg injury during the team’s overtime victory over TNT Tropang 5G in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup.
NLEX assistant coach Joseph Uichico confirmed that Jones is scheduled to undergo the procedure in the Philippines.
“Yes, here (in the Philippines) I think today,” Uichico said in an interview with Abante Bilyonaryo Group’s Homer Sayson.
Jones sustained the injury with 7:27 remaining in the third quarter of NLEX’s 118-111 overtime win over TNT at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City on Tuesday night.
The 36-year-old American import was driving toward the basket when he landed awkwardly on his right leg. TNT big man Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser then lost his balance and inadvertently landed on Jones, aggravating the injury.
Jones finished the game with 23 points and four rebounds before his night was cut short. He had been a key contributor to NLEX’s strong 7-1 start in the Governors’ Cup.
With the import now facing surgery, NLEX could be forced to find a replacement as it continues its campaign in the conference. (Adrian Co)
