No hard feelings: Left out Wright wishes Gilas good luck

Phoenix Fuel Masters’ shooting guard Matthew Wright had nothing but best wishes for Gilas Pilipinas after being left out of the 14-man Team Pilipinas Pool.

Wright’s name was nowhere in the training pool the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) recently released for the two “must win” World Cup qualifying games in Qatar and Kazakhstan.

“That’s out of my control, I can’t control that. That’s the coach’s decision,” said Wright. “I wish them all the best.”

Named to the pool were returning naturalized big man Andrei Blatche, Mark Barroca, Roger Pogoy, Raymond Almazan, Jayson Castro, Paul Lee, Scottie Thompson, Marcio Lassiter and Gabe Norwood.

Troy Rosario, Japeth Aguilar, Poy Erram and June Mar Fajardo complete the list along with Christian Standhardinger, who was named back-up naturalized player.

Even though he was left in the dark, Wright still expressed willingness to don the Philippine colors if ever he’s called upon.

“Whenever my name is called for the country I’m ready for duty,” assured the Phoenix shooting guard.
