No More Hype for Ateneo-La Salle Rivalry?
Not everyone was sold on the much-anticipated Ateneo-La Salle duel on Sunday.
Back then, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter would usually blow up whenever the classic Blue vs Green rivalry was about to start.
That wasn’t the case in today’s matchup, as La Salle only placed at Top 10 in Twitter’s trending topic.
In terms of gate attendance, the game did not attract a lot of viewers to fill out all the seats in Mall Of Asia Arena.
In the end, it was Ateneo stood tall against their arch nemesis La Salle in a 77-69 triumph to claim the first Final Four spot in Season 82.
Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin does not believe that the rivalry has already lost its mojo to the fans — rather, it’s more of a case of other teams making the competition a lot better.
“The matches between these schools are still as exciting as before, but with the level of competition, the other schools have learned to adapt, every game and every team should be treated as your rival,” Baldwin said.
Apart from Ateneo who has yet to lost in their 10th straight, other seven teams continue to scramble for the remaining three spots in the Final Four tournament.
Only time will tell whether the Ateneo-La Salle rivalry will still recapture its glorious days.
