CARL Tamayo has yet to be ruled out for Gilas Pilipinas’ crucial matchup against Iran on Sunday.
National team coach Tim Cone said there is still no definitive update on the forward, who suffered a sprained ankle during the Philippines’ thrilling 82-81 overtime win over Jordan.
“No update. We haven’t ruled him out yet,” Cone said.
The Gilas coaching and medical staff will continue working on Tamayo’s injured ankle throughout the day as the team determines whether he will be fit to play.
“The trainers will continue to work on him through the day,” Cone added.
Tamayo played through the first part of the game against Jordan before the injury forced him to leave. He finished with eight points in the victory.
Should Tamayo be unable to recover in time, Justin Arana and RJ Abarrientos remain the potential replacements on Gilas’ roster.
For now, however, the door remains open for Tamayo to suit up as the Philippines looks to build on its dramatic comeback against Jordan and secure another crucial victory against Iran. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
