NorthPort escapes NLEX, nabs 3rd straight win in PBA Philippine Cup

NorthPort Batang Pier escaped a late uprising by the NLEX Road Warriors for a 96-94 victory in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday night at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Ahead 93-79 with under four minutes left, the Batang Pier suddenly saw their advantage trimmed to 95-91 by consecutive points from Road Warriors’ Kevin Alas and Celedonio Trollano with 53 seconds left.

NLEX even had a chance to come even closer but they misfired their three-point tries before NorthPort solidified their victory with a split free throw from Juan Paolo Taha with 16 seconds left.

Robert Bolick top-scored with 26 points, including three outside hits, Taha and Sean Anthony added 14 markers apiece, while Jamie Malonzo ended up with 13 points as the Batang Pier improved to 4-3.

Trollano led the way with 19 points, Alas chipped in 13 markers, while Jericho Cruz, Kris Porter and Anthony Semerad finished with 10 markers each as the Road Warriors dropped to 4-5.
