NU derails UST in Game 1

The National University dispatched University of Santo Tomas, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17, as NU drew first blood in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals series in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference men’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

The España-based squad started out strong in the first canto, as their hard spikeds forced NU’s to commit errors in receptions.

UST was two points away from closing the second set, 23-22, but was riddled by strings of errors which NU capitalized by scoring three straight points to tie the match.

The Bulldogs would close out the rest of the two sets, as UST were unable to find their momentum.

NU will try to win it all on Game 2 this Wednesday at the same venue.

Bagunas dropped 16 points including 14 off kills with 12 excellent receptions, while Gampong had 16 markers which he collected from 11 spikes, four blocks and an ace.

UST skipper Manuel Medina scored 17 points while Joshua Umandal had 16.
