NU Lady Bulldogs keeps longest active winning streak in UAAP

The National University Lady Bulldogs extended its longest winning streak to 50 consecutive wins to keep the longest active winning streak up the 80th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with a 77-56 victory over De La Salle University Lady Archers in the women’s basketball tournament.
Veteran Rhena Itesi open the fire for the Lady Bulldogs with a 21-point, 15-rebound double-double performance as the defending champions share the lead these season with an immaculate card of 2-0 win-loss card.
The Lady Bulldogs turn the rematch of last year’s championship against the Lady Archers in a lopsided match to remain unscathed sinced 2014.
The last time the Lady Bulldogs feel was in the championship round of Season 76 in 2014.
After that, NU coach Patrick Aquino sweep the next three seasons in a dominating performance and have lorded the UAAP Women’s Basketball first under the ear of Afril Bernardino and Gemma Miranda and now with Itese from Congo and Ria Nabalan.
“I just told the girls not to think about it, it will just give pressure to us every game,” said Aquino, unmindful of the feat. “I never expected in my entire coaching career that I’ll get 50 straight wins, but again, I’ll downplay it.”
Nabalan had her share in the golden feat of the Lady Bulldogs as she scored six of her 18 points in the 13-0 run that doused freezing ice to a late rally of the Lady Archers and preserve the win for the three-time defending champions.
