World’s Top 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena extended his streak of podium finishes by bagging a silver in the Meeting International de Sotteville in Rouen, France, on Saturday Manila time.
This came five days after he clinched a qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Obiena cleared 5.72 meters in one try, finishing behind Australia’s Kurtis Marschall, who hurdled 5.95 meters.
France’s Baptiste Thiery came in third with 5.72 meters in two attempts.
Obiena tried overtaking Marschall but failed to clear 5.92m in his final jump.
Earlier this week, he got a silver medal at the Bauhaus-Galan meet, which served as his ticket to Paris.
He will next compete in the Asian Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 12 to 16. The 27-year-old is also set to compete at the World Athletics and Asian Games later this year.
