One more rookie show up big as Trevis Jackson leads Meralco over Blackwater

by Miles Morales

As if following the exemplary performances of rookies Robert Bolick and CJ Perez, Meralco’s new kid Trevis Jackson provided a much-needed boost to help the Bolts outlast the Blackwater Elite, 99-94, on Saturday in the PBA Philippine Cup at Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Trevis, the surprise fifth pick of the recent PBA Draft, pumped in 19 points and a couple of assists to lead the Bolts in scoring their first win of the season-opening conference.

Jackson buried a triple with 5:18 left to play to provide needed separation from the esteemed Elite.

From there, the Bolts, led by Cliff Hodge and Nico Salva, preserved the early efforts Mike Tolomia and Ranidel de Ocampo to beat the Elite.

Blackwater, now 0-2, was paced by its old reliables Allein Maliksi, Raymar Jose and Roi Sumang.

Meralco will look to follow up another victory when it faces four-time conference champions San Miguel Beermen next Friday.

Blackwater, on the other hand, will face Rain or Shine on Jan. 30 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
