Paras, Ravena, Bollick named in Gilas Pilipinas’ pool for 2023 FIBA World Cup
Collegiate standouts from the NCAA and the UAAP as well as promising junior players comprise the initial national training pool that will see action in the 2023 FIBA World Championship that will held in the country, Indonesia and Japan.
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes took to Twitter to post the names of the 23 players dubbed as the future of the national men’s basketball team.
Bannering the hopefuls are Kobe Paras of Creighton University; Robert Lee Bolick, Kenmark Cariño and Javee Mocon of NCAA champion San Beda Red Lions; Joseph Matthew Nieto, Ferdinand Ravena lll, Kai Zachary Soto and George Isaac Go of UAAP titlist Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles; UP Maroons spitfires Pau Desiderio and Juan Gomez de Liano; NCAA MVP CJ Peres of Lyceum Pirates and De La Salle University’s Abu Jahal Tratter
Remy Martin of Arizona State University, Dwight Ramos of California State University, Ariel John Edu of Llandovery College UK, and Wake Forest’s Troy Rike join Paras as the other foreign-based players of the pool.
Other players named by Reyes include National University’s JJ Alejandro and Joshua Sinclair; Far Eastern University’s Kenneth James Tuffin; Jeo Ambohot of Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Mapua Institute of Technology’s Will Allen Gozum.
Soto and National University’s Carl Vincent Tamayo are the youngest in the pool. Both are just 16 years old.
Conspicuously absent from the pool are Green Archers’ stars Ricci Rivero and Arjun Melecio.
