Patiño’s injury big setback for Azkals
Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami says Javier Patino’s injury will definitely hurt the team’s chances in its campaign to enter the tournament proper of the 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
“It’s a big blow to the team, but nevertheless, we will have to find ways to address this in terms of ensuring that we will up the void that will be left by him,” Palami said.
Patiño suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for Henan Jianye in the Chinese Super League.
On of the team’s prolific scorer, the Filipino-Spaniard striker has also the knack of setting his teammates for great opportunities to find the back of the net.
Palami added that plans to bring in new members to the national team are ongoing.
“We are hoping that they can play in the qualifying tournament. They are getting their passports,” Palami revealed.
The Azkals will face Yemen on September 15 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Azkals are unbeaten in the qualifying tournament with a 2-0 slate.
