PBA forms 5-man committee to oversee trade deals, ends commissioner’s one-man rule
Interim PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial is forming a five-man committee to oversee all trade transactions between teams to ensure fairness and maintain league parity.
“Upon the approval of the league board of governors, Marcial is also forming a five-man committee from within the Commissioner’s Office to deal with player trade proposals,” based on a report by PBA.ph
The move will end the commissioner’s sole discretion in approving or disapproving trade deals such as the much criticized 2017 draft transaction wherein Kia gave up its right to draft No. 1 pick Christian Standhardinger for a handful of San Miguel’s senior and bench players.
Former PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa was forced to resign for approving the one-sided deal even though the entire PBA agreed to uphold his decision.
Marcial took over as OIC while the PBA board hunts for a permanent replacement for Narvasa.
