PBA commissioner Willie Marcial reiterated on Monday the support that the league is willing to offer Gilas Pilipinas for its preparation for the FIBA World Cup.
In a report from the Manila Times, Marcial said that he talked to Gilas coach Chot Reyes about the possibility of scheduling tune-up games between the national team and some PBA squads.
“The last time we talked [with Gilas coach Chot Reyes], I told him to just tell me so we can help because we’re about to end the PBA On Tour and players will be heading to vacation,” Marcial said in Filipino.
In addition, Marcial opposed the idea of coming up with a selection team of PBA players as a tune-up opponent for Gilas.
“If we come up with a Selection team, we won’t expect much defense, unlike a PBA team that has been playing together already,” the commissioner said.
Gilas will leave for China on August 1, where they will join a pocket tournament.
The World Cup will kick off on August 25. (MJD)
