Pelicans’ Holiday has season-ending surgery

New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday’s NBA season has ended early with surgery to repair a core muscle injury, the team said Tuesday.
In an updated posted on their website, the team said Holiday underwent successful surgery and the expected timetable for his return to basketball activities is approximately six weeks.
The Pelicans, eliminated from playoff contention, have seven games left this season.
Holiday had missed the Pelicans’ last eight games with a lower abdominal strain.
The injury halted a career-best season that included averages of 21.2 points, five rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 67 games (all starts).
The Pelicans, who have struggled not only with injuries this season but also with the turmoil surrounding star Anthony Davis’s trade request, have lost eight of their last nine games and at 31-44 are is in the midst of their worst finish since 2016-17.
