Petro Gazz Angels head coach Oliver Almadro is relieved that they entered the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference before the league takes a break for the country’s hosting of the Volleyball National League.
The Angels leveled their standing at 1-1 following a hard-earned 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20 victory over PVL newcomer Foton Tornadoes on Thursday evening at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
“I’m happy na nakadeliver na ng first win yung team namin,” Almadro said. “We really need it before the league break, so kailangan namin makabuwelo going to the next games.”
Gretchel Soltones spearheaded the offense for the Angels with 17 points on 14 attacks, two service aces, and a block, while Jonah Sabete contributed 15 points.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, fresh from her national women’s volleyball stint, tallied a triple-double with 13 points, 13 digs, and 12 excellent receptions, while Mary Remy Palma also got 13 points for Petro Gazz.
Ma. Shaya Adorador top-scored for the Tornadoes with 17 points, while Jasmine Nabor contributed a double-double of 10 points and 12 excellent sets.
The Angels will have a week-long break before returning to action on July 11 against the Farm Fresh Foxies, while the Tornadoes will be back this Saturday against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
