Petro Gazz Angels head coach Oliver Almadro sounded the alarm on his team’s erroneous first two sets in their 25-21, 31-29, 25-17 triumph over Farm Fresh Foxies in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational on Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
According to Almadro, their 21 unforced errors in the first two sets are concerning, but he lauded his players for bouncing back in the third frame to score their second win in three games.
“In the first two sets, we had 21 errors right away, which allowed Farm Fresh to take advantage,” said the former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles mentor.
“But good thing we were able to minimize our mistakes in the third set. Overall, I am happy with how my players performed today against Farm Fresh,” Almadro added.
Gretchel Soltones led the Angels with 16 points, including 15 attacks to go with nine excellent digs, while Aiza Maizo-Pontillas added 15 markers with 13 attacks, one block, and a service ace.
Cienne Cruz exhibited her prowess on the defensive end with 19 excellent receptions and 10 excellent digs for Petro Gazz, which also drew eight points from rookie Kecelyn Galdonez.
Gayle Pascual emerged as the lone standout for Farm Fresh with 11 points and seven digs, while Santiago contributed seven points as her team tasted its third defeat in as many matches.
