PH arnisadors continue dominance in SEA Games, cop 7 more gold medals
The Philippines showed it cannot be trashed in its homegrown sport.
Filipino arnisadors collected 7 more gold medals on Day 2 of the 2019 SEA Games arnis events.
The Philippines; gold-medal haul in arnis is now at 12, nearly wiping out the competition in the padded stick tournament.
Sheena Belmonte (bantamweight), Jedah Mae Soriano (featherweight), Ross Ashley Monville (lightweight) and Abegail Abad (welterweight) reigned supreme in the women’s division after beating their respective opponents in the gold-medal match.
The men’s side claimed 3 gold behind Jesfer Huquire, Elmer Manlapas, and Carloyd Tejada.
Meanwhile, Billy Joel Valenzuela won silver after falling short against Yong Mengly of Cambodia in the lightweight class.
On Sunday, the Philippines won 5 of the total 8 gold medals at stake in the live-stick, full-contact arnis competition.
The action continues on Tuesday with the anyo (form) competition with 4 gold medals at stake.
