PH men’s football caps ASEAN Cup campaign with win against Thailand

Bjørn Kristensen scored twice as the Philippine Men’s National Football Team ended its 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup campaign on a high note with a 2-1 victory over Thailand on Friday at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Indonesia.

Kristensen needed only three minutes to put the Philippines in front, finding space inside the penalty area before calmly finishing with his right foot.

Thailand eventually equalized the score in the 55th minute when Iklas Sanron converted with his left, setting up a tense final stretch.

Kristensen then delivered the winner in the 68th minute, completing his brace and giving the Philippines its first victory over Thailand since the opening leg of their semifinal meeting in the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup.

The result also pushed Kristensen’s international goal tally to 16 in 20 appearances for the Philippines.

The victory left the Philippines third in Group B with four points from three matches, bringing its ASEAN Cup campaign to a close.

Thailand, despite the defeat, advanced to the championship match, where it will face host Indonesia on Monday. (Adrian Co)
