Philippine Azkals fall to Vietnam

The Philippine Azkals bowed to Vietnam, 2-1 (4-2 on aggregate) at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi to end their campaign in the 2018 Suzuki Cup.
The Azkals and the Golden Dragons battled to a goalless game until the home side broke through in the 83rd minute courtesy of Nguyen Quang Hai. Phan Van Duc created the opportunity by eluding defender Amani Aguinaldo before sending the ball to Quang Hai to poke in the strike.
Substitute Nguyen Cong Phuong doubled the lead and practically sealed the finals’ berth for the home side when he beat Azkals’ goalie Patrick Deyto just four minutes later.
Playing in his 100th cap, James Younghusband took one back for the Azkals as he made the most off a scramble in the pitch to score the Philippines’ second goal in the series in the 89th minute.
It was, however, too late as Vietnam sealed a finals’ duel against Malaysia.
