Philippines enters Tennis Grand Slam stage behind Treat Huey’s semis feat
The pride of Philippine Tennis Treat Huey barged into the prestigious Wimbledon semi-finals in Men’s Doubles together with Belarusian Max Mirnyi, earning himself the honor to be the first ever Filipino to appear in a Grand Slam tournament final four.
Grand Slam tourney pertains to the four most important tennis events every year such as Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
Meanwhile, Huey and Mirnyi outlasted British Jonathan Marray and Canadian Adil Shamasdin in a three-set quarterfinal showdown, 6-4, 7 (7)- 6, 6-3, to debut in his career’s highest ‘majors’ achievement so far. Huey reached the Australian Open and US Open quarterfinals in 2014 and 2013 respectively, but failed to penetrate the round of 4.
The left-handed doubles specialist Huey banners the Philippine flag in every international competition he joins and proudly represents the country despite being a half-blood pride.
