Phoenix drawing inspiration from ’embarassing’ Govs Cup playoff stint

Phoenix Fuel Masters coach Louie Alas admitted that the unfortunate experience his squad went through the Governors Cup quarterfinals spur them to go after another twice-to-beat edge going into the next round.

The Fuel Masters finished no. 2 behind Barangay Ginebra last conference, but was beaten twice by the Meralco Bolts in their quarterfinal showdown to bow out of contention.

“Sabi ko I do not want to see again what happened (in the Governors Cup), kasi nagse-celebrate yung Meralco, andun lang kami. Kami luhaan, sila masaya,” the Phoenix coach said.

“I told them make that an inspiration and motivation,” he added.

Currently sitting atop the PBA Philippine Cup standings with a 7-1 card, Phoenix is poised to finish the eliminations with a spot in the top 4.

However, for them to do just that, the Fuel Masters need to get past through the league’s top three heavyweights in Magnolia (March 6), Barangay Ginebra (March 10), and defending champion San Miguel Beer (March 16) in Panabo, Davao
