Alexandra Eala advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Thailand’s Patcharin Cheapchandej in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, on Monday in Japan.
The Filipino tennis star dominated the match from start to finish, dropping only one game across the 55-minute contest.
Eala was particularly effective on serve, winning 22 of 32 points on her first serve and 13 of 15 points on her second serve. She also converted all seven of her break-point opportunities.
The Filipina won 30 of 63 service points overall and claimed 25 of 31 receiving points, while Cheapchandej managed only 17 of 48 receiving points.
Eala also committed two double faults, matching Cheapchandej’s total, but her stronger service and return game allowed her to maintain control throughout the match.
With the victory, Eala moved into the last eight of the women’s singles competition as she continues her bid for the Philippines in Nagoya. (Adrian Co)
