PLDT High Speed Hitters kept its hopes of defending its Premier Volleyball League Invitational crown alive after defeating Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Savannah Davison delivered a huge performance for the High Speed Hitters, scoring 32 points while also contributing 14 excellent receptions and 10 excellent digs to earn Player of the Game honors.
The victory snapped PLDT’s two-game losing streak against Nxled and Ho Chi Minh City and improved the defending champions to 2-2 in the six-team tournament.
PLDT controlled the opening two sets and appeared headed for a straight-set victory, but Farm Fresh extended the match by taking the third frame, 25-23.
The High Speed Hitters regrouped in the fourth set and pulled away when it mattered most to close out the match in four sets.
The win kept PLDT in the hunt for a place in the championship match, although the High Speed Hitters still need to win their final elimination-round assignment against unbeaten Creamline on Sunday.
PLDT will also need favorable results from the other remaining games to strengthen its bid for one of the top two spots that will advance to the Finals.
Farm Fresh, meanwhile, saw its campaign come to an end after absorbing its third consecutive defeat. They now have a 1-3 card. (Adrian Co)
