Pocari eyes Super Team status in pursuit of Valdez
There could be a new Super Team in volleyball, led by no less than the Phenom Alyssa Valdez.
This developed after reigning back-to-back Shakey’s V-League champion Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors, already loaded with Michelle Gumabao, Myla Pablo, Fille Cayetano and Mel Gohing in their lineup, are already recruiting the three-time UAAP MVP Valdez in their fold.
Eric Ty, Pocari’s team manager, announced his plan of tapping the services of Valdez in his Twitter account and argued that his team has nothing but the best for the best woman volleyball player in the country.
“If it’s true that AV2 is a free agent, I won’t hide the fact that I am so incredibly interested in signing her. Why sign with us, AV2? Kasi 1. We wear Blue and White, 2. para maiba naman, 3. we are committed to a long term plan, 4. we have a sense of humor,” Ty said.
Valdez previously played for Bureau of Customs, leading the new V-League team to a runner-up finish in the import-laced V-League Reinforced tournament in November against eventual champions Pocari.
Of all the reasons Ty cited, the third one was the most compelling given that Pocari just inked a P4.6 million 5-year contract with its star hitter Myla Pablo. Aside from the million worth of contract, Pablo also received a Hyundai car.
Valdez, who is looking at prospects of playing overseas, also previously suited up for Smart Maynilad (2013), PLDT (2015) and Bali Pure (2016) in the V-League. (Alex Cerado)
