Provido ready for challenge with dream school La Salle

Middle blocker Amie “Em Em” Provido is looking forward to the challenge as she is set to move to her “dream school” De La Salle University Lady Spikers next year.

The Pototan, Iloilo-native Provido was supposed to relocate to the Manila-based campus this year but the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic postponed it to 2021. However, she was already attending Grade 11 online class for DLSU.

“I am up for the challenge,” the five-foot-ten Provido told Sports Lang podcast over the weekend. “We know naman na si (Lady Spikers head) coach Ramil (de Jesus) is a strict coach.”

“Even if he is strict, alam ko naman na as a player na ‘yung ginagawa niya is for our own good,” she added. “And with coach RDJ as my coach, alam ko na I will be good player pa.”

Provido, a standout from Palanguia National High School, also said that she is willing to prove her worth for the Lady Spikers as she knew the battle to crack De Jesus’ final roster will be tough.

“I know that it will be tough since madami kaming players sa DLSU,” the 16-year-old Provido said. “But, if ever, na i-bangko or limited minutes lang ang ibigay sa akin ni coach, it only shows that I still need to improve.”

“But hindi naman ako magiging contented to just sit on the bench so I will do my best sa training. To show the coaching staff that I deserve to be part of the rotation, to be given playing time,” the Ilongga added.
