PSC to reward EJ Obiena P1.5 million cash for breaking Asian record
Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena is set to receive P1.5 million cash reward by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
This was after the 25-year old cleared 5.93 meters in the 2021 Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck, Austria, officially breaking the 5.92 Asian mark by Igor Poptapovich of Kazakhstan in 1998.
The PSC will have to wait for the confirmation from the World and Asian Athletics Federations if Obiena officially set a new Asian record.
Obiena, who finished 11th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, also broke his personal and national record of 5.91m in the Paris Diamond League.
He is currently ranked 5th in the world pole vault rankings.
