Aiming to bring the Gilas Pilipinas games to a wider audience, Cignal TV has partnered with government station Peoples Television 4 (PTV4) to air the national team’s matches in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
First Vice President Head of Channels and Content-Head of Sports of Cignal TV, Sienna Olaso, said they approached the government station to air the Gilas matches either live or delayed.
“Meron kaming niluluto ng kaunti for Gilas Pilipnas games to be actually seen on PTV4. We were graciously allowed by our partners from FIBA to air it para mas marami ang makakapanood,” Olaso said during the PSA Forum on Tuesday.
“We extended our offer to PTV 4 to actually carry it either live or delayed. We just want to make sure that every Filipino will have a chance to watch it,” she added.
The Gilas Pilipinas will open their campaign against the Dominican Republic on August 25 at the Philippine Arena before facing Angola on August 27 and Italy on August 29, with the last two group stage games slated at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Olaso said that they are hoping that the Vincent “Chot” Reyes-mentored national squad can go all the way to the second round of the competition so more Gilas Pilipinas matches can be viewed.
“Minimum of five (games) all the way to eight games. So, sana, we can enter the next phase so we can have more games,” said Olaso.
Aside from PTV4, Gilas Pilipinas matches as well as other games in the World Cup are to be shown via free-to-air channels TV5 and One Sports, cable channels One Sports+ and PBA Rush, and satellite pay-per-view as well as streaming options such as Pilipinas Live, Cignal Play, and Smart Livestream.
