ALEXANDRA Eala’s early exit from the Singapore Tennis Open has prompted discussions among some netizens, with several questioning whether the amount of attention surrounding the Filipina star before the match may have affected her preparation.
Eala lost to Tatiana Prozorova, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the round of 16 on Thursday night despite entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
Some social media users pointed to Eala’s activities in the days leading up to the match, including a fan question-and-answer session, an open practice, attending fashion shows, autograph signing and photo opportunities.
Some commenters raised the possibility that the packed schedule, fan engagement and media commitments may have left Eala with less time for match preparation.
Prozorova, ranked No. 180 in the world, also received recognition from netizens for recovering from a set down and overcoming a 2-4 deficit in the second set before completing the comeback.
The discussion comes as Eala prepares for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
With the continental competition approaching, some netizens said the Singapore experience could serve as a reminder of the demands involved in managing tournament commitments, public appearances and preparation for competition.
Eala is now set to shift her focus to the Asian Games, where she will represent the Philippines after choosing the continental event over the China Open. (By the Staff)
