Bong Quinto and Larry Muyang came through with inspiring performance in dedication to an ailing teammate Jerrick Balanza as Letran blasted Arellano University, 99-82, to keep its No. 3 spot in the 94th NCAA basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Quinto came two rebounds shy of registering a third straight triple-double effort and ended up with 26 points, 12 assists and eight boards while Muyang posted his NCAA-best 23 points in helping the Knights, who wrote Balanza’s No. 7 on a masking tape on the left shoulder of their jersey, secure their seventh triumph against three defeats.

And they did it for Balanza, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor and will be out of the season.

Interestingly, Balanza turned 22 yesterday and his fervent wish is for him to get back to the basketball court in no time.

The Chiefs fell to their sixth defeat against four wins.
