Rain or Shine Ends Season in High Note Behind Tiu’s Heroics

Down an import, the Rain or Shine Elastopainters leaned on a longtime gunner to seal a win in a rather lackadaisical season.

33-year-old Chris Tiu stepped up amid the absence of Terrence Watson, scoring a career-high 30 points on nine-of-22 field-goal shooting as he dished out five assists and hauled down four rebounds to grab a 107-101 win over the NLEX Road Warriors at the Araneta Coliseum on November 3rd.

Tiu, who may have played his final game in the PBA, scored 17 points in the second half as he lifted the Elastopainters to a 20-point fourth quarter lead, 101-81, with 5:41 left in the game.

However, the Road Warriors countered with a late 16-2 salvo capped by Aaron Fuller’s three pointer with roughly two minutes remaining to cut the lead to just six, 97-103.

Rain or Shine then found an unlikely hero in Dexter Maiquez, who converted a deuce and split his charities to keep the Road Warriors at bay with a 25.4 ticks remaining.

Jewel Ponferada had 13 points for Rain or Shine, while Norbert Torres and Maiquez chipped in 12 points apiece.

Fuller led the way for NLEX, flirting with a triple double with 29 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. However, he had five turnovers.

Bong Galanza had 14 points to support Fuller, while Michael Miranda had 12 of his own.

NLEX finished the Governors’ Cup with a 5-6 win-loss record, good for seventh place, while Rain or Shine finished with a 3-8 slate. Benjamin Rae Espino
