Rain or Shine halts skid, stuns Magnolia
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters showed steadiness in the endgame to beat Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots, 75-72, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Javee Mocon tallied 19 points to go with eight rebounds, while James Yap and rookie Leonard Santillan added 14 markers each as the Painters halted its two-game slide to improve to 5-4.
Trailing 68-67 after a triple by Hotshots’ Andy Mark Barroca, the Painters responded with a 5-0 blast on a three-point play by Santillan and a basket from Beau Belga for a 72-68 edge.
The Hotshots came to within two-points twice but the Painters stretched it to 75-72 on a split free throw by Mocon before Magnolia misfired their three-point attempts.
Ian Sangalang tallied double-double 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Calvin Abueva also had double-double 12 points and 13 rebounds as the Hotshots dropped to 6-3.
