Ravena believes camaraderie built in Spain a big boost for Gilas
Despite being unable to play in Gilas Pilipinas tune-up games in Spain, Kiefer Ravena relishes the experience and the camaraderie national team develops in its training camp there.
Gilas wound up winning 3 of their 4 games in Spain, but they missed out on a match-up against the Spain national team. All the games were played with Ravena, who is still serving his suspension following a positive test for banned substances, becoming the team’s cheerleader.
But Ravena’s observations from the bench were of great help once they got to practice.
The former Ateneo standout also said Gilas’ development was not confined inside the court but more importantly, the squad developed chemistry it will need in the upcoming Fiba World Cup.
“The camaraderie that we built all throughout the trip, ’yung little things na ginagawa namin, ’yung sama-sama kami na kumakain for breakfast, ’yung mga ganoong bagay,” Ravena said.
“For a team na ’yung oras is not on our side in terms of practicing, ’yung mga ganoong detalye, malaking bagay ’yun para sa amin.”
The national team pool will be complete next week, when the players from TNT and San Miguel join practice upon the conclusion of the ongoing PBA Commissioners’ Cup finals.
They will then play exhibition games against the Adelaide 36ers on August 23 and 25 ahead of their trip to China.
Waiting for China is Serbia, Italy and Angola in the Group D matches.
