Rhenz Abando UST Tigers, Headed to Letran?
Rhenz Abando joined the growing list of University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers players who departed the squad following the infamous “Sorsogon Bubble” of head coach Aldin Ayo.
The 6-foot-2 guard/forward Abando confirmed his departure from Growling Tigers in his social media posts on on Monday evening.
“Thank you for your unending grace !!!!,” the La Union-native Abando wrote on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Fast Break PH reported over the weekend that the 22-year-old Abando was being lured by defending NCAA men’s basketball champions Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights even when he was still with the Growling Tigers in Sorsogon.
A move to the Knights for Abando, if ever the Growling Tigers will be met with hefty suspension by the UST or by UAAP Board, is logical since he can play two more collegiate years not counting the residency year.
This is not the first time that Abando’s name was linked to poaching rumors after the National University Bulldogs tried to secure his commitment midway in UAAP Season 82 men’s basketball.
Meanwhile, forward Ira Bataller have also secured his release papers from the Growling Tigers.
