RILEY Grigsby is keeping his options open beyond Barangay Ginebra, but the 26-year-old import admitted that his preference remains to continue with the Gin Kings.
Grigsby, who finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds in Ginebra’s 88-97 loss to Meralco on Friday, said he would consider offers from other PBA teams if opportunities come his way.
“I hope to continue with Ginebra. But if opportunities open somewhere else and they have a spot, I’m open to playing wherever,” Grigsby said.
Still, Grigsby made it clear that Ginebra holds a special place for him after his stint with the franchise.
“Obviously, I want to continue with Ginebra because of the fans, the history behind the team, all that stuff. I’ve been here. I know my teammates and everything,” he said.
The American import also credited his Ginebra teammates for helping him adjust to the PBA and life with the team.
He singled out RJ Abarrientos, Scottie Thompson, Stephen Holt and Isaac Go for the support they gave him during his stay.
“RJ, obviously, is one of the leaders. Then Scottie got back and started getting into the mix of everything. He’s been really helpful,” Grigsby said.
“Stephen’s been really helpful. Isaac helped me a lot with the logistics, like what time things were and what everything was going to be like.”
Grigsby said the entire Ginebra locker room made an effort to help him whenever he was unfamiliar with the team’s routines.
“Everyone’s been helpful. Whenever I looked confused or didn’t know what was going on, whoever noticed first would always come up and help me. I really appreciate that from them,” he added.
Grigsby’s future with Ginebra remains uncertain, particularly with the health status of Justin Brownlee still being monitored.
But after making an impact during his stint and developing a strong connection with the team and its supporters, the 26-year-old import is leaving the door wide open for a return. (Jesus Nathaniel Valdez)
