Rodelyn Perez captured the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight championship after defeating Eman Bacosa Pacquiao by majority decision on Sunday at the DRP Sports Complex in Muntinlupa City.
Perez earned the nod from two judges, while the third scored the bout even at 75-75, allowing the Zamboanga Sibugay fighter to secure the biggest victory of his professional career and avenge a previous defeat to Bacosa Pacquiao in 2024.
Bacosa Pacquiao, the son of boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, appeared in control during the opening round as he landed several clean shots and dictated the early pace.
The momentum shifted in the second round when Perez connected with a powerful combination that sent Bacosa Pacquiao to the canvas. Perez continued to press the attack and scored another knockdown later in the fight before flooring his opponent for a third time in the fifth round.
Despite being knocked down three times, Bacosa Pacquiao remained competitive and continued to exchange punches with Perez throughout the scheduled rounds.
The defeat spoiled Bacosa Pacquiao’s bid for his first professional boxing title and snapped an eight-fight winning run. It also handed him only the second loss of his pro career.
Perez improved his record to 6-4 and walked away with the vacant national lightweight crown, while Bacosa Pacquiao was left to regroup following the setback in his first championship appearance. (AC)
