TITAN Ultra Giant Risers rookie John Bryan Sajonia has been diagnosed with a left ACL tear following an injury he sustained in the team’s loss to San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Sajonia went down with 8:51 remaining in the third quarter of Titan Ultra’s 144-113 defeat. The 26-year-old guard attempted to drive to the basket before his left knee buckled, forcing him out of the game.
Titan Ultra team manager Jessica Arsolon said Sajonia will initially focus on rest and recovery while the team monitors his condition.
“For now Bryan needs to rest and recover to manage the minor tear for follow up check up and observation,” Arsolon said in a message to Fastbreak on Thursday.
The injury is a major setback for Sajonia, who had emerged as one of the few bright spots in Titan Ultra’s difficult Governors’ Cup campaign.
Selected 39th overall in the PBA Season 50 Draft, Sajonia averaged 11.56 points, 2.22 rebounds and 2.22 assists during his rookie season.
His absence leaves the Giant Risers without one of their promising young players as they continue their campaign in the season-ending conference.
