Chery Tiggo Crossovers relied on their newcomers to score a clear 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-7 triumph over Akari Power Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational on Tuesday night at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Rookies Ejiya Laure, Imee Hernandez, and Princess Ann Robles came up with crucial points in the fifth set as the Crossovers improved to a 1-1 win-loss slate and stayed in the playoff race.
Laure and Czarina Carandang opened the deciding set with consecutive attacks as the Crossovers built a 4-1 advantage, before Hernandez and Robles took over late in the frame to preserve the victory.
Laure led the Crossovers with 19 points, including 17 attack points, while her elder sister Ennajie Laure contributed 15 markers, and Mylene Paat and Ponggay Gaston each fired 11 points.
Christine Joy Soyud came through with 18 points, while rookie Faith Nisperos and Trisha Genesis contributed 15 points apiece for the Power Chargers, which dropped to a 0-2 record.
