RP Blu Girls eye foreign training for softball world cup

The Philippine women’s national softball team, which qualified for the Women’s Softball World Cup, is eyeing getting foreign training for their campaign.

The Blu Girls nabbed fourth place in the recent Women’s Softball Asia Cup in Incheon and secured themselves a spot in the World Cup group stages. It will be their first time to compete on the world stage since 2018.

“We’re happy na nakabalik tayo sa World Cup,” said team captain Ann Antolihao on Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

The Pinays, ranked No. 4 in Asia, is grouped with Italy, Japan, Canada, Venezuela, and New Zealand.

“That’s why we need more foreign exposure. Alam naman ng coaches natin na ‘yun ang kulang,” said Antolihao.

They want to undergo a training camp in Japan, where they can test themselves against top teams.

The nationals, supported by ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier, fielded an all-homegrown lineup to the Asia Cup.
