The RP Blu Girls absorbed their third-straight loss after succumbing to Venezuela, 5-1, in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group C on Monday night, Manila time, in Buttrio, Italy.
Pitcher Kikay Palma managed to hold off the Venezuelans in the first four innings, holding their foes scoreless at Campo da Softball G. Michelutti.
But Venezuela made adjustments in the following inning, allowing Eila Infante, Yulexys Barrios, and Kimberly Caicedo to reach base. It was Infante who gave Venezuela a 1-0 breakthrough.
Things went awry for the Philippines when Yakary Molina hit a home run, hiking Venezuela’s lead to 5-0.
The Blu Girls retaliated and sent Cheska Altomonte home for the Philippines’ first run in the World Cup.
However, it was enough to turn things around for the Pinays.
The Blu Girls will next take on Italy.
