Cebu’s Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology made a strong debut in the 2023 Reserved Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Games, securing a commanding victory of 25-9, 25-10, 25-10 against Capiz State University on Monday at the University of San Agustin Gym in Iloilo City.
Salazar Colleges exhibited seamless dominance in their victory over the Capiz female cadets, concluding the match in under an hour. The game was observed by Philippine Sports Commission Commissioner Fritz Gaston and Senator Francis Tolentino.
According to head coach Ray Vincent Sanoria, his team felt pressured against Capiz as it was their first time to compete in a much bigger venue.
“We do not know how they (Capiz State University) play. But we just played our best game. Medyo kinakabahan pa mga players ko since this is the first time na naglaro kami sa ganitong klaseng venue,” Sanoria said.
“Hindi ko pa masabi ang chances namin kasi 8 teams kami sa pool, and I’m sure may magagaling na teams diyan,” he added.
Team captain Ronamae Capuras, who spearhead the Talisay, Cebu-based squad with her 14 points, said her team learned more from the victory as they aim to perform much better in their next matches.
“Mas gagalingan papo namin at [mas] prepare po kami [rito sa] palaro.’Yung teamwork namin po na mas lalong gagana at [umaasa] po kaming marami pa kaming matutunan,” Caturas said.
“Kasi nakikita ko dito ‘yung passion ko at ‘yung mga kapatid ko kasi naglalaro at ginagaya ko [sila] na naghahangad din na makaabot sa next level ng laro,” she added.
