San Beda University handed Arellano University its first defeat of the 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge after scoring a 25-20, 25-11, 20-25, 25-23 victory in the women’s preliminary round on Sunday in Mandaluyong City.
The Lady Red Spikers improved to 3-3 and remained in the thick of the semifinal race, joining University of the East and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA at the same mark.
Angel Habacon led San Beda’s charge and was named Player of the Game after the Lady Red Spikers held off a late push from the unbeaten Lady Chiefs.
San Beda took control early, winning the opening two sets to establish a commanding advantage.
Arellano refused to go quietly, responding with a third-set victory to extend the match and force San Beda to work for the win.
The Lady Red Spikers regained their composure in the fourth set and held their nerve in the closing exchanges, escaping with a 25-23 victory to complete the upset.
Despite the loss, Arellano remained at the top of the standings with a 5-1 record. (Adrian Co)
