San Miguel barge into Finals thru Cabagnot’s heroics
By Mark Patriarca
The defending champs are back again in a familiar territory.
San Miguel got the first seat in the PBA Finals and will now have a chance to defend their throne by outlasting Alaska, 104-99, in Game 4 of the semis series in PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Sunday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Aces are lurking behind San Miguel in the crucial minutes of the final canto to keep their campaign alive, 97-92, with 1:08 minute left.
But never forget that San Miguel has a player who loves crushing opponent’s hopes during critical stages of a match.
Alex ‘The Crunchman’ Cabagnot decided to take the matter into his own hands as he drilled a step-back three over Kevin Racal’s defense.
Take a look at the dagger in two different angles:
That three spelled the difference for the Beermen as their lead became eight, 100-92, in just under a minute, and basically spelled the victory for the reigning champs.
Cabagnot finished the game with an almost double-double numbers of 18 points and nine assists.
Besides him, there are multiple heroes for SMB to finish off the Milkmen. June Mar Fajardo posted 26 points and 12 boards while import Renaldo Balkman contributed 23 markers and 16 rebounds.
San Miguel will now wait for their next opponent between Rain or Shine and Ginebra with the latter having a 2-1 advantage.
