Terrafirma Dyip, a team known for trading its best players, is set to lose its number one scorer, Juami Tiongson, according to sports insider Snow Badua.
On Tuesday, Badua posted on Twitter that the San Miguel Beermen will have the chance to play Tiongson and Jericho Cruz together in the upcoming season. Tiongson and Cruz were both part of the 2014 PBA draft.
“During the 2014 PBA draft, Blackwater wanted either Juami Tiongson & Jericho Cruz for 12th pick,” Badua tweeted. “Eventually they already decided to pick Juami over Jericho. The choice became easy after Rain or Shine snatched Cruz at 9th.”
“Now SMB will have the chance to play them both,” the sports insider added.
The 32-year-old Tiongson has been a part of Terrafirma since 2019. He showed tremendous improvement with the Dyip, as he won the Most Improved Player award in 2021. However, his exploits were not enough as the Dyip’s losing culture continued. Terrafirma’s last playoff appearance was in the 2016 Governor’s Cup.
Meanwhile, San Miguel has been the destination of some of Terrafirma’s best players over the past few years.
The Beermen acquired Terrafirma’s rights to the 2017 number one pick in exchange for Ronald Tubid, Jay-R Reyes, Rashawn McCarthy, and a future first-round pick. San Miguel used the draft rights to select Christian Standhardinger.
In 2021, Terrafirma traded its number one scorer, CJ Perez, to the Beermen and received Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Gelo Alolino, Russell Escoto, and two first round picks. (MJD)
