Jhanlo Sangiao stunned Argentina’s Matias Farinelli with an exceptional grappling game in ONE Fight Night 9 on Saturday.
Sangiao forced Farinelli to tap out under a minute into their 149.75-pound catchweight fight via knee bar at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The son of Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao initially launched a variety of strikes before going for a takedown.
On the ground, Sangiao quickly grabbed the Argentinian’s leg for a knee bar attempt. Hurt, Farinelli was forced to call it quits 58 seconds into the match.
This netted the young Sangiao his second $50,000 performance reward from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Meanwhile, Denice Zamboanga lit up her opponent Julie Mezabarba with vicious strikes for a decision win during their women’s atomweight fight.
Zamboanga connected multiple right hands against the Brazilian while negating the latter’s takedown attempts. Seeing she did much on stand-up, Zamboanga coasted in the third round en route to a clear win.
The victory propped up Zamboanga’s campaign to boost her bid for the women’s atomweight title.
