Santiago stands tall despite China’s win over PH volleybelles
Olympic champion China national women’s team dropped a hammer on Philippine national women’s volleyball team, 25-15, 25-9, 25-7, in the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia Wednesday.
Alyssa Valdez and Jaja Santiago sparked a 6-3 rally late in the first set, 15-24, but an error by captain Aby Maraño gave the set to China, 25-16.
China proved their dominance in the second and third set, winning it easily, 25-9, 25-7.
Santiago played above all else with 16 points off 12 attacks, three blocks and an ace. Valdez was limited to three points.
Gong Xiangyu paced China with 16 points in 11 attacks, four blocks and an ace.
China will next face the Japanese volleybelles in the semifinals while the Pinays will face the Kazakhstan in the classification round on Friday, August 31.
