SAVI Davison delivered a dominant scoring performance as PLDT opened its title-retention bid with a hard-earned victory over Thailand’s EST Cola in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference on Monday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Davison erupted for 30 points to lead the High Speed Hitters to a 25-23, 25-15, 26-28, 25-14 triumph over the Thai side, which featured several players from the country’s Volleyball Nations League squad.
PLDT looked in control after taking the opening two sets, but EST Cola refused to go away and extended the match by taking the third set in a tight battle.
The High Speed Hitters regained their composure in the fourth set, pulling away early and closing out the match to secure a winning start to their title defense.
The victory also gave PLDT an early boost in the week-long Invitational, where it seeks to repeat its unbeaten run from last year’s edition.
PLDT will return to action on Tuesday against Nxled at 1:30pm, while EST Cola will face Farm Fresh at 4pm. (Adrian Co)
