SBP on Gilas win vs Indonesia: The future is bright!
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is elated with Gilas Pilipinas’ huge victory against Indonesia in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers on Sunday.
Overcoming a slow start, the young Gilas squad needed time to establish dominance and rout Indonesia, 100-70, at the BritAma Arena in Jakarta for a successful start to their qualifying campaign.
“The future of Philippine basketball is bright,” SBP president Al Panlilio said in a statement after the game. “Gilas Pilipinas men made us proud once again with their dominant victory against Indonesia.”
It was 23-year-old Thirdy Ravena who led the way for Gilas with 23 points off the bench on top of 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.
Roger Pogoy tallied 16 points while 20-year-old Juan Gomez de Liano chipped 10 points. Another young gun Dwight Ramos also showed flashes of brilliance with 5 points and 5 rebounds) with Matt Nieto recording a team-high 6 assists.
“What we saw in the game against Indonesia was just a glimpse of what could be,” Panlilio said.
“We’re all excited to explore what’s next in the development of our young players and the whole team,” he added.
The Philippines return to action on November 27, when they take on rivals South Korea, and on November 30 when they play Thailand.
